The Brief

The family wanted one generous room for cooking, eating and relaxing, without it feeling like a showroom. They also needed storage for a busy household and somewhere for everyone to gather.

The Plan

We kept the main level open from the kitchen to the living room and used timber to define each zone. A slatted screen frames the lounge, a long island anchors the kitchen, and exposed beams with skylights bring daylight into the middle of the plan.

Materials and Finish

Warm timber joinery against white walls, a concrete-look feature wall and dark stone benchtops. Soft grey upholstery and cream dining chairs keep the palette relaxed, and sculptural pendants add a little drama over the table.

Living in It

Open shelving with concealed lighting keeps everyday things close and on show. In the evening the pendants and joinery lights turn the big room into a set of smaller, warmer corners.
