The Brief

The owners wanted a home that felt calm and grown-up without feeling cold. They cook every day, entertain often and wanted a kitchen that could stay tidy in plain sight.

The Plan

We organised the main level around one long run of joinery that holds the kitchen, a coffee bar and the pantry behind flush black doors. Living and dining share a single open room, with oak-panelled walls marking the quieter spaces beyond.

Materials and Finish

Black-stained oak and dark stone for the working walls, honey-toned oak for everything else. Pale floors and sheer curtains soften the contrast, and a rust bouclé armchair brings warmth to the living room.

Living in It

In the morning the coffee bar does most of the work, with everything at hand and nothing left on the bench. At night the dark joinery recedes and the oak walls glow under concealed lighting.
